06 Feb | Kickoff of Notes and Organization
2023-02-0608-09 Feb | 1st meeting on Leave Topics
2023-02-09Today I got to explore worldwide initiatives on “how to define Goals and Methods to Improve the World”. I used ChatGPT (1st time in a robust way) to search what world organizations have described long-term humanity goals. I especially liked the Club of Rome approach that I did not know of. I liked it so much that I registered the web domain for Portugal for future National Chapter 🙂
This was an excellent second day of Leave!
Explored Initiatives (open for more detail)
United Nations 17 Development goals – central but a little bit unpersonal
It is the most mentioned and used list of goals with a lot of stats on effort and completion (not only by the UN itself)
I really would like to make some relation between these and a person’s own personal goals.
The limitation is that they look too “organization drive” in how they are described and are sometimes difficult to translate to simple numbers and actions of individuals.
Club of Rome – Limits to Growth (1968) – truly aspirational but not updated to present
https://www.clubofrome.org/publication/the-limits-to-growth/
This first chart from the book is exactly what I feel is missing, the focus on the long-term part.
The last paragraph of the book goes again to the short-term vs long-term.
I think there is something substantial about the dynamics or system that we have been in place to deliver massive results in health and education and then when it should focus on sustainability, it took to focus on the consumption and lifestyle support of the
The stickier word out of this approach is Human Gap: the difference between humanity’s capacity to act and our ability to understand the consequences of our actions.
Club of Rome – Updated ideas to 2020, National Chapters… but not in Portugal…yet!
Digging deeper I found that the updated vision or call to action combines in a surprising way some of the things I that feel right to me, both the Complexity System and the Simplicity of Actions (like Tao)..https://www.clubofrome.org/impact-hubs/emerging-new-civilization/
I felt like contacting the organization and found they have National Chapters but not one in Portugal. Since the domain “clubederoma.pt” was not registered…. I just registered it ;
I also read this document of the Club of Rome: Learning new ways to be human.
This text is profound and focuses on the idea that we need to learn new Cultures in order to be prepared for transitions we cannot predict due to the instabilities we are in now.
